What's Identity Worth

Alexi Worth is a contemporary painter who occasionally paints pictures that could be interpreted has having to do with identity. This, among other properties in his work, is perhaps what makes his illustrative style tolerable to more metropolitan, avante guarde tastes.

This piece unequivocally has to do with identity. In part, it suggests that a portrait is created more from the artist's invention than from observation. Or, referring to the title of the piece, a portrait is a complexity of invention and observation. One can think of no less than Da Vinci's famous portrait and how scholars speculate that it is partially a self-portrait.
